Wow! What a great use of the social network phenomenon. As a college student, it seems like I spend a BIG chunk of my day behind a computer with my Facebook and Twitter always up and running while I multi-task with studying. Now I will be able to stay on top of all of the new stories you guys at Natural Standard are releasing. I will have to go become a fan STAT.

I recently became a fan of Natural Standard on Facebook, and I am impressed. I am happy about the links to the blog articles, because as soon as I graduate I will unfortunately lose my Natural Standard access. That will be a great way for me to stay caught up until I can get a job. I was also excited to see the new job listings and the pictures of the students. What a fun atmosphere!

Involving Natural Standard in these social networks is a GREAT way to spread the news about this collaboration’s goals and services. Another suggestion may be to look at placing advertisements on these networks as well (I’m only familiar with Facebook, which I know places ads on its pages). This is also a great way for previous interns to stay involved with up-to-date CAM information and also has the potential to be a great resource for recruiting future interns. I would love to see some more pictures up on the Natural Standard home page…like the saying goes, “A picture says a thousand words…”

Facebook recently introduced a new application, where video links can be uploaded and viewed by Fans or Friends. This may be a great avenue for Natural Standard to explore, where Webinars about their services or previous projects done by interns can be viewed by the public.

As mentioned in previous comments, these social network sites are great resources for future interns to get an introduction of what skills and knowledge a rotation at Natural Standard (NS) has to offer.

There is one major aspect to a rotation at NS, however, that doesn't get mentioned on these social network pages and that is the opportunity for interns to witness CAM in practice at off-site visits. Including the Web sites of these off-site visits (i.e. in the links section of Facebook) could allow interns to research different shadowing opportunities and could also serve as some free advertising (which is a small way to give back to the sites for allowing NS students to come shadow).

The social networking sites add another dimension to Natural Standard’s outreach program. Many students and professionals are involved with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, so it only makes sense that if Natural Standard wants to get their information out to this target audience, these types of sites seem like a logical place to foster growth.

I like Jin’s idea of posting information about the various sites that students get to visit while they are with Natural Standard. These off-site visits are a great way to experience first-hand how some of the complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) procedures work. It is one thing to read about CAM in a monograph, it is another thing to go see it in person. Students not only have the opportunity to witness and shadow the experts in their respective fields, but they may also have the opportunity to partake in such things as yoga, massage and acupuncture, just to name a few.

I don't use social networking tools all that much, but I do have a Facebook account. Ever since I became a fan of Natural Standard, I have been able to not only stay up-to-date with everything that is going on at the site, but I've been able to network with people with similar interests and backgrounds. I hope a lot of people will use the discussion boards because I'm interested to see what other people in my field have to say. It's always great to hear other perspectives. I also think it's great that Natural Standard posts job openings on their Facebook page.

My father always says, "nowadays, we don’t know how our neighbor, but we can chat with friends and family halfway across the globe!" The "Internet", "world wide web", and "web surfing" have become household terms, and now with the emergence of Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, we are closer to one another than ever. When used right, the Internet can truly be a source of a wealth of information.

Imagine going onto the Natural Standard’s fan page on Facebook and reading a message about a job opening they are offering. Your dream come true! What’s more is the networking capabilities that may come out of these social Web sites. People are meeting one another, helping each other in areas of business and other, reconnecting with lost friends…really, the options are endless. So the question is, have you LinkedIn today?

Natural Standard's Facebook page continues to impress me. Not only does it have more fans than I have friends, but they open up their articles to spur discussions within the Facebook community. Obviously, there is a lot of interest in this. I'm excited for even more people to join. They also list job opportunities, provide housing information, and give information on sites that they support. Also, sites like these directly connect healthcare professionals and the public, so it's a great way to get involved and learn.

The social networking that Natural Standard is doing is a nice way to get information out using the current “conventional” methods. It seems like people go to Twitter to get their news, as it is more up-to-date than going to CNN some of the time. I think it makes a lot of sense for a progressive company like Natural Standard to be taking a proactive approach to getting information out to the masses.

It’s impressive how many social networks are becoming available, and with it, the opportunities to really know what is going on in the healthcare world. I found Natural Standard's fan page on Facebook to be really insightful, as they post blogs, news feeds and discussions on their page. What’s more is that students who are doing their rotations with Natural Standards are able to write on the wall and talk about various site visits, their likes/dislikes of the rotation and recommendations for future students. Natural Standard has done a good job keeping up with the times and connecting with the current population.

I always like reading about the site visits that the students at Natural Standard get to partake in. I always see ads in papers about herbal medicine clinics and acupuncture, but they all seem really strange to me. Hearing the students' perspectives on these places is interesting, and it's neat that they get the opportunity to do that.

Facebook also allows Natural Standard to post job opportunities, and it is clear that Natural Standard respects the educational collaboration of the public and healthcare providers by encouraging the discussion of everyone who becomes a fan of NS. Become a fan if you're interested in this kind of stuff. I hope to be a part of some interesting discussions.

Be sure to check out the Natural Standard discussion section on Facebook to see the recent updates on site visits. The pharmacy students have written about their experiences, and Natural Standard has provided more information on some of the practitioners. It's a great resource if you’re a pharmacy student who has signed up for a rotation at Natural Standard or are thinking about it. These insights are also valuable for anyone investigating CAM options for his or her own personal use.

I really like how you can keep up with what they are doing at Natural Standard. On their Facebook page in the discussions section, their students write about all of the sites they visit in the area that pertain to alternative fields of medicine. Most of these are pretty cool, and I usually have no idea that they are even there. I'm a pharmacy student myself, and I wish I had the opportunity to visit locations that have taken a different approach to health and healthcare. It is good to see that these alternative therapies are supported because conventional techniques are not always the best for the patient.

I’m very excited to become a fan of Natural Standard on Facebook! What a great idea for the public, especially for the young population who are more likely to play on computers than read books.

I’m a pharmacy student and always wanted to have good resources about herbals, dietary supplements and general health and wellness. Natural standard is professional -- data from them are so much reliable than some random source from Internet. I cannot believe I can share information or news provided by NS with my close friends and families. It will be shared internationally as well! Thank you.
