Natural Standard research articles on medical conditions
will be published regularly in the journal Alternative
and Complementary Therapies.
Each article begins with a general overview of the medical
condition, followed by integrative therapy options. The therapies are organized
based on their evidence of effectiveness.
The current issue features Alzheimer’s Disease: An
Integrative Approach. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive disorder in which
neurons deteriorate, resulting in the loss of cognitive functions, primarily
memory, judgment, reasoning, movement coordination and pattern recognition. The
article discusses various therapeutic options, including ginkgo, sage,
aromatherapy, bacopa and music therapy.
Alternative and Complementary Therapies, published by Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., provides the latest information on alternative therapies and how to integrate them into clinical practice. Topics include: botanical medicine, vitamins and supplements, nutrition and diet, mind-body medicine, acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, indigenous medicine systems, homeopathy, naturopathy, yoga, meditation, manual therapies, energy medicine and the effect of spirituality on health.

This is such an important step to bridging the gap between clinical and integrative therapies! The natural therapies on this earth are here for a reason. It would be foolish of us not to take advantage and learn all we can about them.

I think it is awesome that Natural Standard is going to be in the journal Alternative and Complementary Therapies. It is a great way for them to get out there and for their information to be seen.

I think this is a great way to increase awareness of complementary alternative medicine to a large audience. I think that not enough emphasis is put on incorporating herbs and traditional Chinese medicine into common medical practices, and hopefully this resource will make practitioners more comfortable with integrative treatment options.

This is very good news, not only for the public, but also for healthcare providers. It will be much easier to review CAM journals to find strong scientific evidence of complementary and alternative medicine, rather than digging up among tremendous resources available in Web sites and magazines. A time saver for researchers!

It’s valuable that there is a CAM journal out there that can provide much-needed information on complementary and alternative therapies, and I think it’s great that Natural Standard is able to be involved and further extend its information to people. This is just another great outlet for Natural Standard to share its information with readers and clinicians and further help educate the public about CAM.

It is an exciting and significant step for Natural Standard, its customers, and contributors; a great opportunity to consistently deliver Natural Standard’s message to the larger audience. It only proves what an important job people at Natural Standard do to inform the rest of us on the richness of natural products.

It is important to provide more information about complementary and alternative medicine. I don't think many healthcare providers have a knowledge base of this information, so it would be great to provide more information to them, as well as the general public.

Good Luck with this, NS. I think it is great! SO many more people and providers need to learn about herbal and alternative treatments. We are not asking anyone to abandon traditional medicine, but instead, to have an open mind to CAM being used along with it. I recently had a negative experience with an MD about all of this, and it just reinforces my opinion that lots of MDs will continue their negative attitude towards this because of the fear that they have since they're not being educated about it.
NS, I hope you can someday work your way into traditional medical schools so that future MDs can get some incredible training in natural products along with their amazing medical training. I will sign up to be a patient with one of those MDs!!!

I am new to Natural Standard and am wondering if there are any other publications that print Natural Standard articles, or is the "Alternative and Complimentary Therapies" journal the first one to publish Natural Standard work regularly?

It's great that Natural Standard is going to be published. Hopefully, this will help provide more information to everyone.
