It looks like there are a lot of small research projects going on to investigate other claimed benefits of pygeum. Well, here is a list of other uses with very little or no clinical significance or supporting evidence: urinary tract infection treatment, may relieve hesitating urine stream, others claim it can clear partial bladder outlet obstruction. And the list continues: bladder sphincter disorders, inflammation, impotence, kidney diseases, hair loss, malaria, sexual performance, stomach upset, psychosis and prostatic adenoma. I also have only heard of saw palmetto for prostate health. I read that saw palmetto may be as effective as finasteride, but has less side effects. Saw palmetto looks like it may be a good natural alternative. I wonder how it would stand up to popular drugs such as tamsulosin.

The article on prostate health was very interesting. I was only aware of saw palmetto and selenium as being good for prostate health. I was surprised to learn about the other options that available. It’s great to see that most of the herbal remedies have strong evidence to support its use.
