This deal look well worth it! The JDS is a very well written publication that covers such an important area in health care. It is so crucial to stay informed about natural and alternative therapies as a health care provider. If a patient is determined to self-medicate with more “natural” regimens, its important to be prepared. This journal aids in that preparedness so that you can be equip with the necessary information.

I am not familiar with JDS. However, while continuing to learn more about dietary supplements and how big of a role they have in health care, I will definitely keep this in mind for a possible future subscription/resource when I am a pharmacist.

I think having the JDS would be a great supplement to also having NS as a resource. Because JDS offers CEs, it will allow pharmacists to stay current and fulfill CE requirements on a topic that is a little less main stream. Also I think having a journal out on a counter or wherever so that other people could see the cover of it would generate an interest in dietary supplements and possibly spark a conversation between a patient and a pharmacist, or between two healthcare practitioners.

JDS is definitely a great idea! There are so many patients taking dietary supplements to aid in treating deficiencies and disease. Most people know the most common dietary supplements such as calcium to treat low levels of calcium or iron to treat anemia, however there are so many dietary supplements on the market that people have limited information about. JDS would be a great journal to read to learn about the various amounts of dietary supplements out there. As a pharmacy student, about to be thrown out into the real world as a pharmacist, I will surely subscribe to this, so I can provide my patients with the best information available.

In response to your question LindaB, I think JDS can be a great resource for anyone interested in CAM therapies. The journal has different aspects that will appeal to each of the populations you mentioned, and I find it very user-friendly.

JDS is a scientific journal that is reader friendly. It is wonderful that they present scientific information and an interpretation of the results. This way the reader doesn’t have to be an expert statistician to understand the study. In addition, I am appreciative of JDS’ efforts to encourage GMP. It is very scary that the herbs/supplements are not regulated like other medications because they could be contaminated and cause harm. I would feel more confident using CAM if GMP was required.

I am not familiar with JDS...is it as user-friendly as Natural Standard? Also, it is targeted towards consumers, clinicians, or both? Thanks.

I think that the JDS serves a hugely important role in modern medicine. GMPs are so crucial to the health of our country. People should know what they're receiving in a given supplement and manufacturers should be held accountable for their product. It's great to see the JDS advancing so much!

I've gotten a chance to review some original manuscripts for JDS, and they were all a wonerful read! There is a lot of information that I didn't realize was available in alternative therapies. Getting a chance to preview some of it was a great opportunity as a pharmacy student. I am very interested in getting a future subscription upon graduation from pharmacy school.
