Wow what a great idea and resource. Its great to see that Natural Standard is making such efforts to expand the spread of wealth of information that it offers to more people by translating their monographs.

The French Natural Standards monograph are not only great for French readers, but for cross referencing research, as well! When I was beginning by review of French scientific articles, it was great to have an English translation to check meaning and reinforce the learning!

Natural Standard will be a great resource as complementary and alternative medicine for patients who understand French only. It is good to see these patients have access to 100 monographs in the best evidence based database available for alternative therapy in their native language. Hopefully, all of the monographs will be available in future not only in French but some other languages as well. Well done Natural Standard!

In response to AS’s comment about Russian translations, that is a very good point. For example, my aunt lives near Coney Island in Brooklyn where there is a very large Russian community and I hope that the health professionals in that area have good resources for translation. Language barriers are always a really big challenge in health care.

The expansion of the monographs into French will be very helpful in communicating with patients around the country. I have worked in pharmacies with large Hatian populations, and we often can communicate with these patients in French. Having information on natural products printed in French will really help to improve communication with these patients. Thanks to Natural Standard for making this possible! The spanish version is very helpful as well!

The idea that Natural Standard provides monographs in multiple languages is wonderful, because it will be a means of spreading the word about alternative medicine. In addition to providing an evidence based approach to people who prefer alternative therapy, Natural Standard is a wonderful resource.

I am really glad to see that Natural Standard is able to branch out in this way. It is pretty impressive that French is the official language of so many countries and organizations (like the Olympics). Integrating other languages into the website will only enhance the products, and I wouldn't be surprised if more languages weren't added in the future.

Carla to continue on you comment, I have also seen CAM therapy used widely in Russian communities so translations in Russian maybe also be a good idea for the future.

I am just curious Natural Standard- what made you decide to offer the website contents in another language? Did you receive a lot of requests? I too will be curious to see what langauge(s) is/are next! Great job Natural Standard! Always working so hard and keeping up to date!

Ashley, I'm assuming the romance languages would be the easiest to translate into. So maybe Portuguese. And I always thought maybe German, since natural medicine is very widespread there.

The French translation is really exciting! That means Natural Standard's information can be used in France, Canada and many African countries!

Great to see that Natural Standard is continuously working to reach a wider audience. Monograph availability in multiple languages provides such a great resource for health care professionals and their patients.

I agree with everyone! This is great news. In the retail setting, many prescription drug monographs and bottle labels are available in other languages too. For those who have worked retail, do you find your fellow pharmacists are comfortable dispensing in another language, since they can't read it themselves for accuracy? I have heard of many pharmacists refusing to dispense in another language because of this. It's tough having a language barrier to face, I have heard of many drug errors occurring this way. For example, a prescription bottle read "once a day" but a Spanish speaking patient saw "once", which is Spanish for eleven, and was taking eleven tablets!

This is extremely helpful to pharmacists who have a large population of Spanish- or French-speaking patients! Many patients come in with questions about natural products and it makes it even more difficult to answer their questions when they speak a language other than English. This is also a great way for Natural Standard to reach more patients with their great resources!!

I have found that other drug information websites with international translations have been extremely useful in the past. Often times I have a patient who doesn't speak English come in the pharmacy, but I can print off a patient-friendly handout in their native language. I am totally going to utilize these Natural Standard bottom line monographs to educate patients who I otherwise might not have been able to communicate with.

I love that Natural Standard is always working on ways to expand their reach of information. It’s great to see these types of improvements being made and how beneficial they are for those who do not speak English as a first language. Natural Standard seems to be constantly updating information and making the webpage easier for its users. It’s so important for this information to be dispersed as widely as possible!

This is such a good way to educate even more consumers and professionals. I had no idea that the monographs were also available in Spanish until I read this posting! Now that they are in French, this information can reach another huge population of people. The information that the Natural Standard provides is relevant to all cultures and nationalities. All countries and populations have their own unique herbs and supplements that they rely on. It makes sense that the Natural Standard would publish their monographs in multiple languages because they include data from all over the world in their publications and therefore its fitting that they redistribute their findings back to as many people as they can.

The Bottom Line monographs in Spanish are fun to read, I will try the names out with Spanish speaking patients. For example, St John's wort (Hierba de San Juan), cinnamon (Canela), and probiotics (probióticos).

What a great idea, to expand the knowledge of complementary and alternative medicine. The use of herbs and supplements are becoming more and more common these days, and not being able to gather information on them can be daunting to patients taking them. Natural Standards provides a great evidence based approach on assessing these alternative therapies providing patients with pertinent information. Now that they are available in multiple languages, more and more individual can learn useful information about their alternative therapies. Great idea!

Kudos to Natural Standard for providing high quality evidence based information in multiple languages for its users! What other languages do you hope to translate your monographs into in the next coming months? Does Natural Standard distributes subscriptions internationally as well- just curious! Thanks!
