Oh yum! I love soup when it starts to get cold outside. I really like Natural Standard's recipe database because it provides links in the ingredients to the related monographs so that you can see what those ingredients are useful for. For example, an ingredient may be olive oil, and the link will bring you to information about the benefits of olive oil.

As the blistering cold New England Autumn and Winter approach, there is not much that brings me as much joy as cuddling in my PJ's, snugly wrapped in a throw in front of the TV with a hot bowl of soup and some bread. I love that this stew has so many vegetables from the harvest season, and hearty enough to warm my insides even when it's 30 degrees out.

Trips to local farms are part of fall tradition for families, especially in New England. Pick your own farms offer opportunities for families to share in the process of harvest and cooking. Healthy recipes that are also pleasing to the plate are always needed. When foods can be easily created with fresh produce and preparation is fairly convenient, the whole family can benefit. Also, inclusion of new flavors like the combination of apples and rosemary can encourage people to try different recipes using similar ingredients, adding variety to their diet.

Linking the Natural Standard recipes with the blog via Recipe of the Month is a great idea! These recipes are fun to research and put together. Another idea - links to recipes that represent the season - "Recipes of the Season" featuring those fall plants that naan mentioned.

This recipe is a great way to use some of the fall harvest's bounty. Now that the weather is cooling down, comfort foods like stew are becoming more welcome. Many hearty stews are high in salts, which patients with heart disease often need to restrict. It is nice to see a heart healthy option for this popular comfort food. I am glad to see Natural Standard offering recipes that are healthy and delicious!

Autumn is a favorite season for many people. I think a lot of people love the association of different foods for different seasons. For example, fall season always brings lots of pumpkin, apple, and cinnamon flavors. Of course, smells and taste always bring back memories of years past and the cycle keeps going and going. The combination of apple and rosemary in this stew make it a sure bet to bring a sense of autumn to your taste buds. What a great idea from Natural Standard. I will continue to look up the recipes of the month, they always feature very exciting foods. You can't go wrong with a warm, hearty, healthy stew in the chilly months of fall.
